This rod also comes with one of Sam's business cards wrapped around the tube as well as a letter of authentication from Dana Gray -- Sam's protege who still makes rods under the Carlson name -- who has estimated the manufacture date of this rod to be 1970

The chopsticks (split internodes) are spliced maintaining the geometry of the original culm and the splices are staggered in the splines very much like a 3-up pattern of node staggering

Horn handle and half coin tension control. Hard to find in this condition. Foot slightly and neatly filed. I believe this reel dates to 1895 1906.
