Henri Matisse spent his winters in Nice, following the light south when the rest of France went grey. He sat at the edge of his bed in the Htel de la Mditerrane, watching the sun come in, picking up his brush. We think this is how he would have taken his lunch plates full of colour, a table set with joy rather than formality. The Buds in May plates are our homage to that instinct. Hand painted
